In the wake of the enormous success of Saturday Night Fever (1977), dance films in the ‘80s were a real phenomenon. Fame (1980), Flashdance (1983), Footloose (1984), Breakin’ (1984), Dirty Dancing (1987), Salsa (1988) or Lambada (1990): every dance craze was poured into a film and produced a hit single. The result was not always great, as Xanadu of 1980, one of the worst movies ever, proves, unfortunately.

The Australian actress and singer Olivia Newton John, John Travolta’s love interest in Grease and the queen of the aerobics music video (Physical), puts on her roller skates in a very unlikely story. Olivia plays some Greek muse who has been sent to earth to help a young bloke who want to open a giant roller-skate dance hall, Xanadu. A pompous soundtrack of the Electric Light Orchestra and musical legend Gene Kelly in his last ‘big’ film role, complete the picture.

Brace yourself for a wonderful silly film evening full of bad music!
