Sam Curtis Did anyone ever tell you that you’re beautiful when you’re following orders?

Video artist Sam Curtis uses found footage and shows a succession of fleeting, accidental moments that highlight the human desire to express ourselves.

Curtis shows how people can give new meaning to their jobs by giving them a creative twist: a singing bus driver, a beat-boxing operator in a call centre, a dancing waiter. The work rhythm and beat change in a video soundtrack. A soundtrack that is reminiscent of work songs that used to be sung in order to increase productivity.

Interestingly: This title was ‘taken’ from a poster of the punk band, The Feederz. Singer Frank Discussion, well-known for his “situationist interventions”, once distributed a tyrannical pamphlet against the phenomenon of school and work, allegedly on behalf of the Arizona Department of Education.
