Hoda Siahtiri The Circle of Grieving Voice(s): wearing grandma's velvet jacket

workshop
SA 23.03 14:00 - 17:00

A journey of ancestral connection and collective grieving, exploring the depths of sadness and reconciliation.

'The Circle of Grieving Voice(s)' is a collective vocal practice using grief as a pathway to connect with ancestral memories and unresolved stories. Artist Hoda Siahtiri guides participants on a journey to find their grieving voice through vocal exercises and body movements. It is as much a practice of vocal expression as an exercise in listening and tuning in to the collective hum.

'The Circle of Grieving Voice(s)' is a collective act of reconciliation with our emotions, a space to witness, give voice and listen to the chambers of sadness hidden in every one of us. Join the circle if you feel this is a call for you.

This session specifically focuses on the heritage of human/nonhuman and biological/non-biological grandmothers. Details and practicalities about the workshop will be sent to registered participants in the week before the workshop.

HODA SIAHTIRI is an audio-visual and performance artist and researcher based in Brussels. She defines herself as a 'diseuse' – a (fortune)teller – who narrates and mediates voices that have been silenced in the past. Siahtiri’s work centres around grief, memory, and ancestral vocal heritage. Hoda’s films, performances and exhibitions have been shown in various festivals and cultural venues. She conducts a PhD-research at Sint-Lucas Antwerp on the singing tradition of Bakhtiari women in the West of Iran.
