The Communist Revolution was Caused by the Sun is part II of Anton Vidokle’s trilogy on Russian cosmology. Vidokle investigates the poetic dimensions of the cosmological theories of Alexander Chizhevsky, a Soviet era scientist. The film introduces Chivensky’s ideas and the impact of the solar system on human behaviour, from epidemics to wars and revolutions.
Placing the post-Soviet geographical regions alongside futuristic projects raises the question of whether cosmic space could not better be seen as the fight of humanity against the limitations of this earthly existence, rather than the harvesting of technological progress.
