Shaw uses original black & white images as the foundation for a new narrative overlay, where elements of science fiction, neurological science and biological transcendence blend into one another.
In a distant future, the human race has evolved into a biologically superior and immortal form: the “Quantum Humans”, neurologically synchronised via “The Hive” (a kind of cloud-like substance). A small group of them, however, suffers from H.A.S. (Human Attavism Syndrome). This complex affliction resurrrects characteristics and societal traits of the original human race that has been extinct for generations.
Quickeners was co-produced by KÖNIG GALERIE, the British Columbia Arts Council and the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève for the BIM 14, with the support of the Fmac, the FCAC and the MONA MUSEUM.
