Phèdre release new track Ancient Nouveau
Sophomore album Golden Age out October 1st on DAPS (NA) / Discos Tormento (MEX/SA)

Toronto's Phèdre just released the first single off of Golden Age, their upcoming sophomore record. Described by Stereogum as a "goth-y meld of avant-pop beats", Ancient Nouveau was inspired by Chief Spence of the Attawapiskat First Nation and the apathy of the Canadian government towards First Nations communities in Canada.

BIO
The seeds for Phèdre were sown in an attic, over three late summer nights and hundreds of bottles of cheap wine. Loosely inspired by both Greek mythology (Phaedre, daughter of Minos and Pasiphë) and the Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazelwood duet "Some Velvet Morning", Phèdre is Hooded Fang’s front man Daniel Lee, bassist April Aliermo and whichever friends they kidnap for some guest appearances.

Since dropping their first record in early 2012, they have played shows with Ariel Pink and opened for Omar Souleyman. Phèdre just spent the gloomiest months of this past winter in Berlin, writing and recording their upcoming album, Golden Age.

The group’s playfully dark, sweetly romantic, and often strangely affecting jams recall the warped AM avant-pop vibes of Ariel Pink, John Maus, Molly Nilsson, and the like, except these guys sound like they’re genuinely having a blast all the time, and it’s extremely infectious. – Gorilla vs. Bear

[A] mutant hybrid of several different types of sounds – of Montreal’s freaked-out glam, the AM-radio baritone blur of Ariel Pink, and a dash of the cheekiness contained in Tom Tom Clib’s “Genius of Love”, for good measure -- but it's Phèdre's charming mash of these signifiers that make the song rise above mere pastiche. - Pitchfork

Brain Rain

(BE | electronic)

It’s like warmness slowly beating through the freezing tubes – that’s how Belgian, French and German audiences describe “Brain Rain”. The project was launched in Brussels, in the very end of 2010, as an effect of the collaborative decision made by two Lithuanian musicians: Gota Slick and Eliza Lozovska. The broad spectrum of previous experiences – from classical instruments, through the punk-rock and post-rock bands, until latest individual experiments with electronic sounds – is putting the creation of “Brain Rain” into frameless frames: cold, slow, severe, edgy but inevitably sensitive.
While in the beginning “Brain Rain” was exclusively studio project, experimenting and searching for its unique sound, from 2011 the project started to be visible on the stages of Belgium, France and Germany. Additionally, in February 2012, Gota Slick, was selected to participate in “Berlinale” as a composer/sound designer for the “Berlinale Talent Campus 2012”.

Recently, in the end of 2012, "Brain Rain" was selected as one of 8 semi-finalist (from 164 bands) of electronic music competition "Concour Circuit Electronique" (Belgium).
