Behind the name TOKiMONSTA lies Jennifer Lee, an American lady with Korean roots. She delivers instrumental sample-based hip-hop and electronics, creates soundscapes by incorporating live instruments, percussion and dusty vinyl, and has just released her second album, Half Shadows.

She comments on her new record: “I wanted this to be a musical odyssey. You leave this planet, and then the music gently places you back on earth.”

She can count Flying Lotus among her admirers. The figure-head of the LA dance scene has just added her to its Brainfeeder crew as first female DJ. In 2010 she was elected best female DJ in Los Angeles, she has already toured with Skrillex, Diplo and Grimes and played at the major festivals including Coachella and Sonar.

In our opinion, not bad at all.
