Reading Bushman w/ Victoire Karera Kampire
Book (or film) club about the film Bushman, w/ associated artist Victoire Karera Kampire.
This reading & watching group invites participants to explore "Bushman" (1971), directed by David Schickele, through the lens of
Édouard Glissant’s concept of the ‘Right to Opacity’, as developed in ‘Poetics of Relation’ (1990), alongside Louisa Yousfi’s essay ‘Rester barbare’ (2022).
The session will be structured around selected excerpts from the film in dialogue with key passages from the texts, fostering a
space for discussion and collective reflection.

Édouard Glissant was a French-Antillean writer, poet, and literary critic. He is recognized as one of the most influential figures in Caribbean literature.
Louisa Yousfi is a journalist and writer. She was a resident at the Villa Medici (2024–2025). She is the author of ‘Rester barbare’ (La fabrique, 2022).
Victoire Karera Kampire is one of Beursschouwburg's associated artists.
Conversation mostly in English.
No prior viewing or reading is required—everyone is welcome to participate.
(But those who want can come and watch Bushman in the open air cinema the night before.)
