Experimental noisemaker Old Painless opts to ‘communicate with brute force instead of subtlety, like sergeant Blain Cooper’s darling M134 minigun in The Predator’. With just a handful of singles surfacing online, this artist is as underground as he is dark. Both his music and his melancholic photography (featuring cute baby goats) show a combination of raging violence and explicit sensitivity, reminiscent of the true greats of noise-hop, such as Death Grips and Ho99o9. Only one thing remains to be said about Old Painless, and about noise-hop in general: its raw power is best experienced live.
