Ugnė Vyliaudaitė and Marija Rasa Kudabaitė create a dialogue between a mosaic of samples, carefully triggered field recordings and Vyliaudaitė's violin. Complicated, soothing, yet far from ambient for their way of getting under your skin. The compositions gently manipulate their own logic from background to foreground and back again. Patches of text or recognizable samples serve more as texture than meaning. While the electronics are reminiscent of house music or half-forgotten techno, the violin provides a touch of old-fashioned elegance, making an Ugne & Maria live set sound both wistful and comforting, before encouraging us all to come together and dance.
